At a 50th wedding anniversary party of which I was a guest not the "official" photographer, I managed to come away with something nice. My new technique to capture truly candid images is to watch for folks taking "selfies', or self portraits with camera phones.  They forget about everything and everyone( that would be me) and just focus on the camera phone. The young man above brought his collapsible selfie stick.  It the old days, we would call something like that a monopod.  Today, it's known as a monopod selfie stick.
