Back in 2007 I decided to write a Perl program to translate English words into Spanish using a pocket-size Webster's dictionary as my translation source.  At the time, I was attending a Spanish church group about once a month and was finding myself looking up the same words over and over, while studying.  So, since I love writing small Perl programs I ended up writing something which is blazing fast to translate words entered. However, I didn't use some available digital dictionary.  I figured I could make my own. Any word not in my dictionary of a few words, I would have to enter.  And enter is what I've done over the past 8 years. My total number to date is over 10,000 entries.  Now, the words were being added whenever there was a need to add.  Since this was done infrequently, my program dictionary was growing slowly.  Recently, I've decided to just  completely add all the words from my paper dictionary.  Everyday I force myself to add at least a couple of words. Some days its a page or two of words.  Needlessly to say, things are moving along much faster now. What's the point? I've learned a few Spanish words, wrote a 500+ line Perl program, entered 10,000 words using over 361,000 keystrokes. Why do people climb mountains, jump out of planes, solve Sudoku puzzles, .... ?
