According to a report on the BBC website: The last surviving member of the US air crew that dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima has died in Georgia aged 93. Theodore Van Kirk, also known as "Dutch", was 24 when he became the navigator of the Enola Gay, the aircraft which dropped the bomb. The attack on Japan on 6 August 1945 killed an estimated 140,000 people. Van Kirk said he had "no regrets" about the mission and defended its morality, saying it helped to end the Second World War. ------------- ------------------- ----------------------- This is so sad. It is so sad that Van Kirk didn't have any regrets.  Killing 140,000 innocent civilians is nothing to be proud of.  He and his crew dropped an atomic bomb on non-combatant  men, women and children. Without "any regrets" suggests that dropping a nuclear bomb is a legitimate means to end a conflict, and is also morally sound. That is dangerous logic, which allows nuclear weapons to be used again in the future to win( uh,help end) a war.   The Israeli vs. Palestinians in Gaza conflict comes to mind.
