This was the third time this wood floor has been repaired. I've come to the conclusion that water not only finds its own level, but searches out hardwood floors. Two years ago a leak on the second floor spilled down to damage part of the first floor.  Insurance company decided to replace the entire first floor area, except ceramic tile in kitchen.  Floor was fixed and everything looked great. Last November a leak under kitchen sink damaged the bottom floor again.  Insurance company repairs damaged section at the tune of $19,000.  It was bad, plumbing, flooring, mold remediation, and etc.  Floor was fixed and everything looked great. Two months later Margo notices that floor is warping in two locations. WTF?  Another tiny leak, which  was barely visible, was the culprit. The cost for repair was estimated at under a thousand dollars.  My insurance policy has a $1000 deduction which means I would have to foot the repair.  After some time watching the sub-floor, to insure it was not wet, I decided to get another estimate.  An installer from All Wood Flooring said the minimum bid for the company was $600.  Since the company had done so much work at my house, he would try to get it done for a little more than $300.  I asked "how soon can you start?"  He tried but it didn't happen.  It would be $600 to repair the small 100 sq. ft section. I made an appointment for Saturday July 5th and paid a down payment.  Then I decided to do it myself.  After all, how hard could it be?  Margo and I put down a wood floor in our basement while living in Cherry Hill NJ.  When I informed Margo of my plan to fix the floor she asked if I had cancelled the appointment with All Wood Flooring. She knew if I came up short on the repairs, All Wood Flooring would be there in a day or so to do it right. AWF was still scheduled to come. It only took me 4  hours to complete the job.  Only thing left to do was replace the molding in a couple of places.   I called All Wood Flooring and cancelled.  That's like paying myself $600. Floor was fixed and everything looked great.     // // More can be seen on my blog: Picture_This!   //
