I wish I could say I set this shot up, but it wouldn't be true. However, it still is a decent photograph full of energy. My weakness, no one of my weaknesses as a photographer is setting up group shots. It's natural for me to photograph candid situations, not choreographing them. Maybe, that's from years earning a living as a photojournalist. The photograph above is a 100 percent candid shot. I was taking pictures at a beer and wine festival when I notice this group taking a "selfie", self-portrait, of themselves. Fortunately, I was able to get a few frames. You've seen the wedding "jump" shot where the wedding party jumps into the air to be frozen in time by photographer, right? That shot has been done so many times, it may be standard for a wedding photographers portfolio. We'll E.W. Faircloth will take credit for the group "selfie." You may use it freely the next time you need a fun group photograph. Since someone in a group will have a cell/smart phone, you'll have a natural prop. Have the group take their own picture while you "capture the moment." I can't wait to shoot a wedding:) // // More can be seen on my blog: Picture_This! //
