Photography by Jon Falk My friends were in Habana, Cuba recently. It gave me a nice warm feeling to see they had visited the island. The USA State Dept. allows cultural exchange programs to grant travel permission to the island. It's all legal, so one doesn't have to travel to another country first but can take a direct flight from Florida. They were there to learn and take pictures, as we see. Of course, no Cuban trip is validated without having tasted some rum, smelled cigar smoke or taken a ride in some vehicle circa 1950's. Now, I know my wife, Margo, is going to see the word Habana and alert me to a possible typo. No, Cubans spell it that way. She also will remind me that I haven't taken her to Cuba. Both times I went to Cuba as a photojournalist, not on cultural exchange or tourist package. Here is my first trip in 1988: http://www.faircloth.org/blog1/?p=3851 Why Cuba? Why not! Let's see, I've been to Mexico, Canada, Viet Nam(thanks to Uncle Sam), The Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Burkina Faso, Cuba, St. Maarten, France, Switzerland and Jamaica. It's a big world out there, I'd like to see part of it.
