We can't handle the truth, at least some of us. Of course, I had to go out and buy the August 20113 Rolling Stone magazine to show support of their decision to put the surviving Boston bomber on the cover. It has drawn a little controversy, not so much being a picture of the terrorist but a few thought it made him look like a "rock star", which many times grace their covers. My gut feeling is there would have been much less noise had he a beard and looked Arabic, or Black wearing a hoodie. That would fit into the stereotype of terrorist or bad guy. To show someone resembling your typical "red-blooded American", I'm guessing, was too unsettling for a few. He didn't look like a rock star to me Clearly as the cover states " The Bomber: How a Popular, Promising Student was Failed by His Family, Fell into Radical Islam and Became a Monster' was a journalism exercise in the discovery of what makes a terrorist tick. The magazine did an excellent job in that search, but didn't break any new ground. It was the same old reasons given in the past. You'll have to read it yourself. If you don't want to spend $4.99, let me know and I'll send you my copy. I'll have to read Rolling Stone monthly now since I read it from cover to cover. I like the writing style. Also, right there on page 28, I found out that Blues great, Bobby 'Blue' Bland died recently, at age 83. The publication did a tribute to him. He did many great songs. Rolling Stone didn't mention one of my favorites "Stormy Monday", but that's OK with me. It's impossible to chronicle a life as rich and so full of creativity, on one single page. I have one last word on the "piece." It would have been good to see if Janet Reitman, author of Rolling Stone story, found any similarities between terrorists and state-sanctioned warriors(soldiers, police, mercenaries). We can't handle the truth, at least some of us.
