This is one of few journalists based in Washington Press Corp who had my respect. Helen Thomas passed away on Friday after a long illness. Please take some time and "Google" or "DuckDuckGo" her. A CNN obit can be seen at: http://www.cnn.com/2013/07/20/us/helen-thomas-obit/index.html?hpt=hp_t1 At press conferences, she would ask tough questions, questions to gain insight and answers. She didn't ask those which seemed to have come from The White House itself, and been practiced prior to press briefings.
