Each year tons of prescription drugs end up in our water supplies as folks discard unused prescriptions in landfills, flush down toilets, and etc. This isn't good. So while cleaning out my medicine cabinet I collected medicines not being used to discard. One of them was dated to expire in 2008, that's five years ago. Being the civic-minded individual I can be at times, calls were made to both Walmart and Walgreen's. Almost all the drugs were purchased from their pharmacies. My civic-minded brain felt it would be logical for these stores take unused prescription drugs back from customers. They didn't want anything to do with them. Old medications should be disposed of promptly and responsibly. To help you do this, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration sponsored National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 27th between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. My local police department was taking back prescription drugs at the firehouse on this date. I'm guessing it's easier to just flush prescription medicine down the toilet than wait until the next drug take back day. Sometimes, it's hard to do the right thing.
