I don't think you have to travel far to make interesting pictures.  Yes, you can go to flower shows, places where wild horses roam, tropical forests, and such but there are many opportunities near your own home.  You just have to look around. Walking around a construction site near me I saw the gravel/stones seen above. While you may not want a 16 x 20 of it on your wall, a graphics designer would find many uses for it.
