Regis Charles Maher January 5, 1941 to November 6, 2010 When you think of the truest example of a family man, or a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle or friend, it is easy to think of Regis Charles Maher. "He was the nicest man I've ever known" is not uncommon to hear when you ask someone who knows Regis to explain him as a man. Regis Charles Maher, born January 5, 1941, lost a courageous battle with cancer on November 6, 2010, but the life he led was one to be admired by any man who cares deeply about his fellow man and his family. Regis was a man who honored faith, truth, and decency. To say Rege Maher was an extraordinary and loving father, husband and grandfather is an understatement. To say he was always there for those in need is an understatement. To say he was merely a moral and true human being is also an understatement. A peaceful well mannered man whose love of time with his grand kids, late afternoons at the beach, sunsets, clean cars, meticulously manicured lawns, the occasional manhatthan, along with the love for his sons Rege and Rob, daughter Gretchen, and his love of 50 years, Sherrey, were what defined this man. He was a gentle man and he is surely in heaven. He was the son of the late Dr. Regis M. Maher and F. Lucille Maher. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sherrey Palumbo Maher, of Bridgeville, DE; his son Regis C. Maher II of York, PA; son Robert C. Maher and wife Shari of Frisco, TX; daughter Gretchen Frantz and husband Richard of Uniontown, PA; daughter-in-law Lisa Maher of York; and seven grandchildren: Regis Charles III, Charlie, Tobie, Halle, Lauren, Corey and Ellie. He is also survived by four sisters: Mary Ann Kocan of Uniontown, PA, Marty Lyons of Mt. Ephram, NJ, Virginia Rach of Greensburg, PA, and Barbara Newell of Bridgeville, DE, along with many loyal friends in Uniontown, Northern VA and Bridgeville, DE. Lifetime achievements included: President of Red Cross, Uniontown, PA, Herman Buck Man of the Year, President Uniontown School Board, President of the Uniontown Country Club, Owner of Fayette Chemical Company and Director of Plans and Projects at the Roofers and Waterproofers Union. Memorial Service will be held at OUR LADY OF LOURDES ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH in Seaford, DE at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 9, 2010. The family will receive guests from 10:30 to 12:00 p.m. before the service begins. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to: "First at Forty" 6701 Lake Circle Drive, Dallas, TX, 75214 (Foundation encouraging men to get their first prostate screening when they turn 40) OR to: Livestrong.org in memory of Regis Maher.
