Story as told by Lhan David: I've been fishing the kayak for a while now, but since I took a long drive up north to fish some new waters I went back to my beach basics. I walked the beaches for miles and hours looking for action. I started off finding herring jumping and catching those for bait. Afters hours of chunking, soaking and life lining herring ...nothing. Just as I was about to make the 2 mile trek back to my truck I notice dark swirls and moving circles of water that could only be bunker. My attention now focused, I tried my hardest to reach the pods to do my snag and drop. The first hook up was a monster 15 lb Blue that put on an aerial show. My next was what had to be another big blue that fought like a horse only to have me wind in a cut line. As I hurried to tie up a new rig the water started to explode as bunker was being blasted in what had turned into an all out blitz! I calmed down just enough to make a long cast into the pod, snagged and waited as the bunker swam for his life I plotted my revenge. Revenge for the long walk and revenge for the rude cut off. I yanked to see if my swimmer had come off and then I watched him jump sky out the water, something was on him and hunting him hard. My pole, line was dancing and my heart pounding through my chest. I then felt the pole slapped, I flipped off the live runner and the drag immediately started screaming. I was now scared I wouldn't be able to turn him and tightened down the drag a bit more while running into the water to gain a bit more line back. He pumped and ran, pumped and ran and after 15-20 minutes I saw stripes, long big stripes. At this point he had another burst of power left and set out again. This time I knew I was not going to lose this fish! When he stopped running to breathe I winded fast and hard until bringing him back beach side. I all but just jumped on top of this monster. I had finally landed the 48 inch 40lb beast. Exhausted, I laid on the beach admiring him with respect. It was my personal best ever! ------------ --------------------------- ----------------------------- Editors' note: Lhann David is one of my son-in-laws. He loves to fish and now so does my daughter, Maya.
