Photography by E.W. Faircloth This is how some roads look around 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 8th, 2010. A snow storm which started Friday afternoon, and continued until early Sunday morning, is still crippling traffic around here. It seems we weren't prepared for this amount of snowfall. We, being the State of Delaware, the Town of Bridgeville, and the Developer of Heritage Shores. Many of the roads in this state, town, and my neighborhood are still snow and ice-covered. I noticed yesterday once a large snowplow cleared my street, minutes later, a Chesapeake Gas utility vehicle was looking for a home on Widgeon Way. The driver asked me the location of 145 Widgeon Way, as a homeowner had reported a gas leak. Uncleared roads make an emergency more urgent. I can only hope no one in our community and surrounding communities needed evacuation to an area hospital during this storm. What could we do differently the next time? Not knowing the amount of personnel, equipment, and supplies, I am unable to make concrete suggestions. However, for starters, we need the major roads in and out of our community cleared. A few of my neighbors and I cleared our driveways yesterday, only to find out that the main road in our development , Heritage Shores Circle, was covered with snow and ice. Here's a hint: Next time, don't wait until the storm is over. Get started after around 3 inches and keep plowing periodically.
