Comcast Cable decided to increase rental fee of their Internet cable modem to $5.00 monthly.  Previously, the fee was $3.00 a month. Why do some companies want to nickle and dime customers?  A few pennies here, a few pennies there, right?  No, it's not right when you're on a fixed income, such as myself.  I'm mad as he!! and ain't taking no more. I have decided to buy my own Internet cable modem to use.  I found one online for about $25.00 so I will not be paying to rent Comcast's modem indefinitely. At their current rental fee, I'll be saving $60.00 a year by owning my modem. Comcast has a list of compatible modems you can buy from vendors. There are pros and cons with owning your own modem but a $5.00 a month rental fee has the pros crossing the finish line first. Here's one person's thoughts: "Unless you get a TON of lightning strikes each year, it is cheaper to own your own modem. But if you are in any way time critical, it is WAY faster to go exchange your modem at the local office than to buy another one on short notice." Translation:  It's cheaper to own your own modem. If it breaks, go to local Comcast office and get another one of theirs. Comcast raising the rate was being penny wise but pound foolish with this customer. Oh yeah, I now belong to the Facebook group, Comcast Sucks:)
