That's a Internet cable modem provided by Comcast Cable.  The company was charging customers a $3.00 per month rental fee. This month my bill increased and I needed to find out why.  Well beside charging about $2.00 more for high speed Internet service, Comcast now is charging $5.00 per month to rent their modem. Excuse me? Comcast is trying to charge me $60 a year to rent their equipment? This company reminds me of loan sharks, those unscrupulous folks who charge exorbitant fees on a loan. I've used the same modem for the past 2 years. I've paid for the cost of that modem and now Comcast wants to up price, to rent? What? Well, I'm buying the same Scientific-Atlanta DPC2100R2 cable modem off the Internet for $26.94.  As soon as it arrives, I'm returning their unit and will demand they take off that monthly "loan shark" fee. Bernie Mac could have said "America, we need more competition". We need Walmart to get into the Internet Service Provider business.   Verizon isn't competition but part of the same school of sharks.
