The Studio in St. Michael's DE Night #1 My wife and I ended up going out to dance two nights in a row. A friend of ours told us about a place where there was Latin dancing on Friday nights. Start the salsa music and we'll be there. The friend gave us a newspaper ad with information about a certain spot. A nightclub called Ovations is in the lower part of The Rehoboth Beach Theatre Of The Arts. So Friday night we get dressed and head on down to Rehoboth Beach and try to get there early. The newspaper ad said the dancing was from 9:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. I felt we should be early to lay claim to a table. Nothing worst than standing up all night and having no place to put a bottle of water, glass of wine, or a beer. We arrive only to find another group of people have reserved the nightclub until 11:00 p.m. It was a "Boys Masquerade Night" party. Later, around 10:30 p.m. when we entered the nightclub, we understood what the "boys" part of a party meant. The guys were having a great time, with each other, the music, and all. Finally, at 11:00 p.m. the party didn't seem to be over but they had to leave. It was now to be a Latin dance party with more traditional male/female pairs. In a matter of minutes, it was party time again. Margo and I got a table near the dance floor and had a great time for a few hours. Everything was going fine until one jack@$$ decides to put his cup containing beer and a beer bottle on the dance floor right in front of our table. I guess "Einstein" couldn't figure out what would happen next. In less than a minute, the cup is kicked over. The place reminds me of a nightclub in Philadelphia where the later it gets, the more crowded it gets where the DJ starts to lose his hearing, therefore keep turning up the volume. We dismissed the beer mishap, but less than 10 minutes later Margo got kicked. It reminded us of something. Just as in Philly, getting kicked means the non-dancing drinkers are taking control of the floor therefore time to leave. Night #2 Since Margo and I have danced salsa for over 5 years, we can handle ourselves on the floor. Most of the non-nightclub type organized dances we've found in Delaware tend toward ballroom dancing. It either ballroom or driving 2 1/2 hours for salsa in Philly or Baltimore. Not wanting to be a "one pony circus act" we have decided to learn a few ballroom steps. That direction took us to The Studio in St. Michael's MD on Saturday night. They were to give a free Tango lesson. Once again, we arrive early. We were greeted by Sandra Showell, a wonderful dancer and teacher. The tango lesson was easy and lots of fun. We meet a real nice couple we would like to see on the dance floor once again. They loved to Cha Cha and seemed to enjoy dancing with each other. They actually met each other in dance class and later got married. Both nights were fun. The music, volume, crowd size, ethnic makeup, age demographics, dress, alcohol consumption, and other things were very different at the two locations. Hey, different strokes for different folks:)
