Problem:  Draw attention to a gift. A short time ago, I shot the above golfer at a dinner put on by the Heritage Shores Ladies Member Guest 2009 Golf Tournament.  One of the souvenirs given members of a committee was a battery-powered ring which glowed in the dark. I wanted to show the ring glowing and at the same time the golfer surrounded by darkness. So I exposed the camera for the ring and added underexposed light from my electronic flash unit to barely make face visible.  The shot on the left is the unedited version. That's not what I had in mind.  I really wanted the ring to jump out. A little reminder to all the professionals out there.  This was not a studio project with hours to perfect the shot. No, it was take a couple of pictures and move on before the table server accidentally dropped a salad on your head because you were in the way. Solution:  Photoshop it I decided to do some image editing in Adobe Photoshop.  That's not the only software available.  There's  Gimp in linux. among others, which can do the same thing although not as easily.  I decided to convert the image to black and white but leave the ring in color. I feel a little better about the picture now.
