The official start of spring (March 21) is called the vernal (spring) equinox and is dictated by the earth's orbit around the sun... We've passed the point where the north pole is now tilted in the direction of the sun instead of away from it. We are having spring-like weather earlier each year due to the warming trend the earth is currently experiencing, some people call it 'global warming'. It doesn't really mean spring starts any sooner in celestial terms. -- Eggman It feels almost like spring and outside of my back window I can see the golfers in full force on warms days such as we had today. Buds aren't on the trees yet and the grass is still brown but this great weather for golfers.  Besides higher temperatures the lower fees also are helping.  Until March 1st, Heritage Shores Golf Club is charging a fee of only $25 for 18-holes. Normal prices are much higher.
