Next month, the photo project is to take pictures of pets.  Well, yours truely doesn't have a pet.  I'm not allowed. My neighbors on both side have pets.  One has two huge Laborador Retrievers and the other feeds 3 small dogs and 2 large cats. My daughters begged my wife for a cat when they were younger. They were to fed and take care of their pet. That was the deal.  I came home and found a new pet. My wife cared for the cat. It was never close to me. This hairball never paid attention to me until it was hungry and no one else around to feed it. When Smokie Faircloth died my wife decided no more pets. The neighbors with the small dogs have them potty trained to go in a box. Now that's the only way I can see having a dog. I asked those neighbors to take a picture of their three dogs.  They are about the size of a large cat and well mannered. After about an hour I gave up on trying to get a picture of all three on a seamless white background. One would sit still and pose. Another would sit still but kept sticking out her tongue.  The third one would not to stay on the background paper.  It was my first pet portrait.  I found it a little like child portraiture.  It seems to help getting the pets in their natural environment.  The picture with all three that looks good was taken on a couch where which they normally lay. The dog which just sat patiently on the white background paper was named Babe. i wanted to headline the blog as "This _____ Is Cute" but my wife says the female dog has to have had children to use that term. She may just be trying to keep me on the straight and narrow path. After working at a tabloid newspaper, The Philadelphia Daily News, for over 26 years I like to see headlines that scream.
