I don't think any children need expensive toys, not just the smart one. Now, I don't really know about all children and there may be some with special needs that require their parents to spend more. But I think most of them can have fun with simple objects like my grandson above. He has the Fischer-Price toys with bell, whistles, sounds and lights but he as just as much fun under the piano stool. He's in a discovery stage and discovered the piano stool rung rotates. So when he's under the stool he rotates the wooden rung and has just as much fun as playing with his "better toys". His father complains about people buying him toys that he grows out of in a few months. Doesn't matter as I can't wait to get Naji some toddler golf clubs from Dicks sporting goods store. I have to wait another year because it is suggested the child be two years of age. Naji is only one. He may be playing golf with Grandfather before he's out of diapers:)
