With World Series just about over I saw a story in a local paper concerning a classroom in Delaware. It seems Forwood Elementary School teach Deddi Mosel whose father was a vice president of publicity for the Philadelphia Phillies for over 40 years. Debbi decided to use the World Series to make class lessons around the event. I knew her father, Larry Shenk, as I once worked at a Philadephia Newspaper. He always very professional and just all around great guy. Why am I happy my kids didn't go to school there? The class materials mentioned in story seemed smart enough. But her class and other schools in article seem to be pulling for the Phillies. I wouldn't want my children going to a class to learn how to be Phillies fans. I wouldn't mind them learning about BASEBALL but not to choose the Phillies to root for. I would want a teacher to teach them to how choose the team they wanted to win, period. The teacher could explaining why the final games are called The World Series when only teams from the USA compete. The world plays soccer as an internation sport not baseball. Teach kids how to think not what to think.
