My little girls are now adults. Not only that but Maya on the left is pregnant. Jamila is to be married later this year. One of Maya's sister-in-laws went out and bought all kinds of baby stuff: for a girl! Of course she kept the receipts just in case it's a boy. I help raise one of my nieces for about a year when she was 3 or 4.  Since I had experience, when it was time for me to have kids I wanted girls. I was fortunate to have two. My girls were special and trouble free growing up. Their mother kept them in line. The only thing about having girls is they lose their fathers name most of the time once married. I thought about this when doing a family tree program. A family name is just a label. It's the biology that matters. It's the genes you pass to your children. Those genes are passed on to future generations. So my grandchildren may not have the last name of Faircloth but they may have the Faircloth nose or lips. Or they may have the Downing nose, lips or command of language. Margo, my wife's maiden name was Downing. She's the linguist in the family. Both Maya and Jamila inherited their language skill from her. Both of them speak very good English and now Spanish. Margarita, as she's known in Spanish class, has now learned to speak French very well and also dabbles in Spanish. In fact, Margo would be telling me to get to the point right about now. Anyway, as for my first grandchild, I hope it's a girl.
