Rick Selvin, Jon Falk and I worked together at the Burlington County Times long ago. Rick was the Sunday Edition of this 40,000 circ. Burlington NJ paper back in the 80's. Jon Falk made a film called "Deep News" in which Rick was the central character. It was a fun paper and I cherished working there more than any other place in my photojournalism career. Later, Rick left and went to the Courier-Post, another NJ paper. It was there that he introduced me to a young writer named Margo who also worked at the paper. Margo would become my wife of 32 years and counting. She has always said that Rick was the best editor she every knew. Fate would have Rick, Jon and myself together again at the Philadelphia Daily News one day.Yes, it's true Rick was a splendid editor and newspaper professional but I tend to remember people by their character. As a picture editor I would pick the above picture as the one picture to represent Rick. That's his smile and it hints to the type of man he was. That's the type of guy who when not working on deadline could play jazz piano. I have never heard anybody play piano as good as Rick in the newspaper business. He had talent. Rick had skills. Rick was a great guy. -- Wayne Faircloth --------------- ----------------------------- Here's a note from Florence on his last hours: Rick passed away tonight. I think he was at peace. He had a stream of visitors all day and even though he couldn't talk he was very much aware. They wore him out. As I sat with him when everyone was gone he seemed to be fighting sleep. I kissed him goodbye and that I loved him and how wonderful the last 18 years have been and told to him to go to sleep and he passed after I left. There were two of our friends there with him. I think he waited until I was gone, always thinking of me to the end. Thank you all of you. Love, Flo --------------- ----------------------------- Very sad - what a terrific man he was. I have many great memories of working with him. Getting a compliment from him for my work on headlines or my column was a treasure. -- Don Russell --------------- ----------------------------- For anyone who would like to send a condolence card, here it is: Florence Selvin 254 South Farragut Street Philadelphia, PA 19139 The service is 11 am Monday at St. Francis de Sales in West Philly.
